Analytics
We collect anonymous traffic data using our own first-party analytics, hosted on our infrastructure — no third-party analytics scripts are loaded. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies on your device and collects no personally identifiable information (PII).
Visitors are counted with a non-reversible hash derived from your IP address, browser, and a daily-rotating secret. The raw IP is never stored and the hash resets every day, so it cannot identify you or follow you across days.
Because no cookies or personal data are used, no consent banner is required under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the ePrivacy Directive.
What we collect
- Page views and referrer information (aggregated, not tied to individuals)
- Country-level geolocation derived from IP (IP address is never stored)
- Custom engagement events: scroll depth, time on page, outbound link clicks, FAQ expansions, and related-article clicks
- Which article a newsletter signup came from (counted anonymously — your email is handled separately by our newsletter provider and is never stored in analytics)
What we do not collect
- Names, email addresses, or any other personal data
- IP addresses (not stored)
- Cookies or persistent identifiers
- Cross-site tracking data
Data retention
Analytics data is stored in our own database and kept in aggregate to inform editorial decisions. It contains no personal data — only anonymous, aggregated event counts.
Third-party data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or any other commercial purpose.
Fonts & embedded content
This site loads the Inter font from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser requests the font files from Google's servers, which means your IP address is shared with Google for that request. No cookies are set by this request. If you prefer to avoid it, most browsers can block third-party requests — the site remains fully readable with your system's default font.
Hero and in-article images are served from Unsplash and/or Pexels. Loading an image sends a request to those services. We do not share any personal data with them.
Your rights (GDPR)
Even though we do not collect personal data, you retain the following rights under GDPR: the right to access, the right to erasure, and the right to data portability. Because no personal data is stored, these rights cannot be meaningfully exercised — but you are welcome to contact us with any questions.
